Physics 240: Electricity and Magnetism I

Course Overview

Electrostatic fields and potentials in vacuum, Gauss' law, electrostatics of dielectrics, magnetostatics, Biot-Savart, Ampere, and Faraday laws, magnetic induction, magnetic materials, and Maxwell's equations.
In particular, we will cover vector calculus, and electric and magnetic fields in vacuum and in materials. The more difficult problem of solving for combined electromagnetic fields will be left for PHY 340.
