STT School Site Visits by University Supervisor (Physics)

University policy requires that a university supervisor visit the school site approximately roughly every other week during the course of the student teaching practicum. The focus of each visit of the Physics Teacher Education coordinator's visits is as follows:

Visit 1: Detailed online orientation.
  • Online introduction PowerPoint presentation with sound track.
  • Initial contact by university supervisor by e-mail or phone calls as necessary.
Visit 2: Takes place during third week of student teaching approximately.
  • Face-to-face introductions as necessary.
  • Questions & answers as necessary.
  • Observation of student teaching.
  • Examination of unit plans, daily lesson plans, assessments, etc.
  • Follow-up discussions (private and group) between and among university supervisor, cooperating teacher, and student teacher.
  • General reminders about teaching requirements: turning in 7 NSTA-mandated assessments, multicultural and diversity assessment, final reflective essay, and final student teaching assessment (Democratic Ideal portfolio) -- all on LiveText by end of spring classes (not finals week).
Visit 3: Takes place during fifth week of student teaching approximately.
  • Observation of student teaching.
  • Examination of unit plans, daily lesson plans, assessments, etc.
  • Follow-up discussions (private and group) between and among university supervisor, cooperating teacher, and student teacher.
  • Discussion of mid-term STT Performance Assessment Instrument results completed previous to visit by both student teacher and cooperating teacher. The form is signed as necessary.
  • Review of the Realizing the Democratic Ideal mid-term assessment. The form is signed as necessary.
  • General reminders about teaching requirements: turning in 7 NSTA-mandated assessments, multicultural and diversity assessment, final reflective essay, and final student teaching assessment (Democratic Ideal portfolio) -- all on LiveText by end of spring classes (not finals week).
Visit 4: Takes place during seventh week of student teaching approximately.
  • Observation of student teaching.
  • Examination of unit plans, daily lesson plans, assessments, etc.
  • Follow-up discussions (private and group) between and among university supervisor, cooperating teacher, and student teacher.
  • General reminders about teaching requirements: turning in 7 NSTA-mandated assessments, multicultural and diversity assessment, final reflective essay, and final student teaching assessment (Democratic Ideal portfolio) -- all on LiveText by end of spring classes (not finals week).
Visit 5: Takes place during nineth week of student teaching approximately; must avoid PSAE testing.
  • Discussion of final STT Assessment Instrument results completed previous to visit by both student teacher and cooperating teacher. The form is signed as necessary.
  • Determination of student teaching grade by university supervisor in consultation with cooperating teacher (section 1 related to 21-page student teaching performance assessment; section 2 related to NSTA-mandated reports relative to STERS assessments).
  • Collection of cooperating teacher's DL number.
  • Review of the Realizing the Democratic Ideal final assessment. The form is signed as necessary.
  • Complete and sign off on red sheet (back)
