- Dr. Ren wants to get students involved in recruitment and retention
- Today we are going through the powerpoint used to introduce the department to make it more student oriented, we are looking for YOUR comments
- For each presentation to a group you can get $30
- produce a written report of success and suggestions for improvement
- Big Brother, Big Sister type mentorship program in department to improve retention
- Please fill out the interest forms and return to Dr. Ren ASAP
- Dr. Jay showed the powerpoint
- It is intended to appeal to students, who usually have already displayed an interest (vague or otherwise) in the department
- It is often for parents too
- The presentation usually lasts 10-15 minutes
- Designed to give preliminary information
- RJ is sending a balloon to the stratosphere
- MIT did it for $150, theirs took lots of pictures
- RJ intends to take pictures, temperature/pressure data; open to other ideas as long as we keep the weight under 4 lbs
- Looking for $20 each to get stuff
- His goal is at least $200
- Tests will be run with tethered balloons
- Send 2 balloons up
- Project will involve programming, etc.
