Physics Club Constitution

Purpose

The purpose of the ISU Physics Club is to build a stronger physics community on the campus of Illinois State University. This can be achieved through increased interaction between the club and the local communities of Normal and Bloomington, through increased interaction between the Physics club and other RSO?s and societies, through increased interaction between the club and the faculty of the Physics Department, and most importantly, among club members. Through these interactions, we can increase the campus' and community's knowledge and awareness of physics as a relevant, engaging, and familiar science, so that a more positive attitude concerning physics remains. At the same time our members can be exposed to a greater understanding of the various facilities, ideas, and opportunities of the ISU campus and surrounding community. Additionally, members of the club will be exposed to all the opportunities that the Physics Department offers to its students.

Membership

In keeping with the purposes set forth in section 1, the ISU Physics club will require its members to be active parts of the club. This includes serving on committees, voting on items, and participation in some of the various activities which the club endeavors upon. Therefore, any ISU student who so desires, and is a willing, active participant, may join the ISU Physics Club. Membership includes, but is not limited to, the following rights and responsibilities:

  • Each member must pay dues of $10.00 per semester or $15.00 for a full year of membership during the fall semester.
  • Each member is entitled to cast one vote each time a vote is called and is in order
  • Each member may attend any ISU Physics Club meeting, including officer meetings and committee meetings
  • Each member must attend at least two general meetings per semester
  • Each member will have any and all SPS options available to them

Elections

All elections will be secret ballot elections, following nominations by the club members during an official physics club meeting. Nominations should be seconded by a member other than the original nominator. Officer nominations will take place on the fourth to last meeting of the year. Voting will take place during the following meeting. Each nominee may give a speech of five minutes or less prior to the voting process. The presidential nominee must have one full year of active membership prior to nomination, be a physics major for two semesters, and be of junior status upon year of office. All other officers may be freely nominated. Results of nominations will be posted and declared at the meeting after elections are held. New officers will assume positions and control of the club at the beginning of the final meeting of the year.
